The Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Research Unit seeks to appoint an experienced, energetic and organized individual to join the MaRISA project, which is a study focused on developing a technology-based behavioural intervention to address maternal alcohol use with mobile breathalyser technology, contingent financial incentives, text-based health promotion and referrals on gender-based violence, maternal/infant health, and psychosocial issues including the impact of COVID-19 in the context of maternal alcohol use.

The incumbent will be required to work a flexi 30hours per week depending on study requirements.

Responsibilities:

- Recruitment & Data Collection:

- Recruit participants: i.e. screen potential pregnant and post-natal women for eligibility, enrol/consent these participants into the study
- Capture confidential research information on the electronic software package (i.e. REDCap)
- Conducting qualitative interviews and focus groups
- Conducting behavioural assessments
- Retain participants within the study for the required time span

- Research Administration:

- Research administration - Filing of documents as per the protocol requirements
- Accurately documenting all research related information in order to facilitate ease of retrieval and reporting and maintain and effective filing system.

- Quality Assurance/Review

- Perform quality control checks on data Identify errors on forms, check missing information or data for correction and report the discrepancies to the Study Coordinator
- Verify that the information captured on the source documents is the same as the one captured on the REDCap data system

- Reporting:

- Ensure compliance with study protocols
- Keeping track of appointment system and reporting on fieldwork activities
- Report any adverse and serious incidents to study management as per protocol requirements
- Perform administrative- and any other ad-hoc duties.

Core Requirements:

- Have a Grade 12/Matric
- 1 – 2 years’ experience in data capturing and administration within the research environment
- 3 years of relevant experience in conducting fieldwork for other research projects or other public health research and relevant experience in working in target communities
- Experience conducting qualitative interviews with research participants
- Have a valid drivers’ license and demonstrate experience driving a code B vehicle for more than a year
- Speak fluent isiXhosa and English
- Have excellent interpersonal skills
- A good understanding of data quality control systems
- Computer skills in Microsoft packages

Advantageous:

- Accredited Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification which is still active
- Knowledge and prior experience working within Maternal and Obstetric Units at public health facilities.

A salary of R107 704 per annum (R9 875 per month,) cost-to-company.
